Former Sunderland loanee Amad Diallo looks to be a man in demand heading into the January transfer window.

Diallo spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light, a loan spell that was deemed a complete success for the club, the player, and Manchester United.

He returned to Old Trafford in the summer with his reputation growing and speculation that he could have a chance with the first team.

The winger played in Man United’s first few games of their pre-season schedule, but sadly suffered an injury against Arsenal in the USA that has resulted in him missing all of this season so far.

Diallo is now back in training at Manchester United and with him working to build his sharpness up, it has been reported by Football Insider that Erik ten Hag is keen to give Diallo a chance to impress ahead of the January transfer window.

But that hasn’t stopped Championship sides from showing interest in the player, with Sunderland and Leicester City particularly keen.

Leicester City and Sunderland eye Amad Diallo deal in January

Both clubs held an interest in signing the attacker during the summer transfer window, but as stated, injuries during the pre-season prevented any move from happening.

Now, according to Football Insider, both Leicester and Sunderland are ready and interested in taking Diallo on loan in January until the end of the campaign.

Ten Hag is keen to give the Ivory Coast international a chance in the first team as he looks to replace Jadon Sancho. But this report states that if Diallo is unable to take his chance, the Premier League giants will sanction another loan departure for the player.

Therefore, Leicester City and Sunderland, who are both vying for promotion in different ways, are ready to make a move and sign the 21-year-old on loan.

Both clubs may face some difficulty, as this report claims that there are Premier League clubs as well as European sides looking at Diallo’s situation.

Amad Diallo must snub Leicester City and join Sunderland if Man United departure happens

At this stage, it is not fully clear what Man United would like to do with Diallo, as he is still working his way back to fitness after his injury, and it is unclear when he could be available for matchday squads.

Also, ideally for the Red Devils, they would want Diallo to do well when he’s given his chance, and therefore, he is kept around Old Trafford.

But if, for whatever reason, that isn’t the case and Diallo is allowed to leave the club on loan in January, then the 21-year-old must prioritise a move back to Sunderland instead of joining the Foxes.

One of the reasons for this is the obvious one, and that is that the player was their last season and enjoyed an excellent campaign.

Last season, Diallo played 37 times for Sunderland in the Championship, during which he scored 13 goals and recorded three assists. That meant he had an overall expected goal ratio of 8.1 and an expected assist rate of 4.3, as per Fbref.com.

Diallo was averaging a goal 0.45 times per 90 minutes, as well as an assist every 0.10 times. The winger was a frightening sight going forward, with him having 64 shots on goal in the entire season, 25 on target, and obviously 13 ending in goals. He averaged a shot 2.23 times per 90 minutes he played, as per Fbref.com.

The Man United man did ever so well last season, and while Sunderland fans may doubt their chances of re-signing him due to him being better than the Championship or because of Tony Mowbray leaving, the Stadium of Light would be a better choice for Diallo than Leicester would.

If the 21-year-old were to re-join the club in January, he would slot straight back into their starting XI, as the Black Cats are in need of more attacking options, and as shown, his performances for the club were too good to see him come back and not start week in and week out.

While, if Diallo were to join Leicester, it could be said that his guarantee of football may not be as strong, as Enzo Maresca has a lot of options in the attacking third and there are players at the club now who are not playing a lot, so there is no reason why Diallo would.

Man United will want to send him somewhere he will play every week, and from their perspective, they will probably see him playing more at Sunderland than he would do at Leicester, as things stand.
