Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most divisive players in the world of football. There are few other players who divide the fanbase as the former Real Madrid icon does, but when seen from an objective point of view, no one can argue against the fact that he remains one of the best players in history to have played the beautiful game.
The Portuguese superstar reached another personal milestone yesterday as he scored his 901st in the UEFA Nations League match between Portugal and Croatia, which ended 2-1 in Portugal’s favour. The Al-Nassr forward put in a cool and calm finish after receiving a cross from Nuno Mendes in front of goal.
Ronaldo’s fans throughout the world celebrated and congratulated him for such a massive achievement. Real Madrid also took to their social media to congratulate their former talisman. The Merengues’ post on Twitter went as:
“Another historic milestone: 900 goals in the professional career of one of the greatest legends of Real Madrid and world football. Congratulations, dear and admired @Cristiano! Real Madrid and the Madrid fans are always proud of you.”
It has been some years since Ronaldo left Real Madrid, but his legacy at the white club will always remain unsurmountable. Around half of his 900 goals, 451, were scored while he donned the Los Blancos jersey, he remains the top scorer in the history of the club.
Currently, playing in Saudi Arabia, he is quite far from his fans at Real Madrid, but there is no doubt that these fans celebrate his achievements with a lot of happiness and enthusiasm. As he looks at the end of his professional career, these fans will be hoping he can return to the Merengue club in one capacity or another and remain associated with them for years to come.
