Spain’s place in the last-16 of the World Cup looked pretty safe heading into their final group game with Japan tonight.
But a goal in the 11th minute to put them 1-0 up would’ve settled any nerves that may have existed amongst Luis Enrique’s men.
Álvaro Morata lost his marker and headed home from Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross to put his country ahead and bag his third goal of the tournament so far.
He is now the joint-top goalscorer at the World Cup and his strike has written him into Spain goalscoring history.
The Atlético Madrid striker now has 30 goals in 60 games for La Roja and becomes the fifth highest Spanish goalscorer, overtaking Fernando Hierro.
