The player in question? Álvaro Morata.

The name of frontman Morata, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes after a more in-depth explanation for the absence of the 31-year-old from Atlético’s squad to face Alavés over the weekend was forthcoming.

Morata, it was confirmed, was suffering with trigeminal neuralgia.

The condition is one which causes often severe pain in the face, stemming from the sensitive trigeminal nerve.

Enough to make any day-to-day task a difficult one, it therefore came as little surprise when the Spanish international remained absent from training on Tuesday.

As confirmed by Mundo Deportivo, though, a day on, Morata has been spotted back amongst Diego Simeone’s squad.

The medication given to the former Chelsea and Juventus man to deal with the problem has, for the time being, done the trick, with Morata therefore expected to be part of the Atlético Madrid squad which faces off against Athletic Club in a crunch La Liga showdown on Saturday night.

It should be noted, though, that trigeminal neuralgia is not a simple condition to treat, and can flare back up at any moment.
