Alvaro Morata remained positive despite Spain falling to a late draw with Germany in Group E at the World Cup, insisting they faced an 'amazing team'.

Morata came off the bench to fire Spain ahead after an hour in what looked like another dominant display, but they let Germany back in late in the game and Die Mannschaft punished them through substitutions of their own.

Niclas Fullkrug fired in an equaliser after 83 minutes to ensure the game finished 1-1 and increase Germany's chances of making it to the knockout stages.

Speaking to the BBC after the final whistle, Morata wasn't concerned with his side letting the lead slip: "It was a tough game. Germany have an amazing team and it was a really good game.

"It was two teams that could be a semi-final or final in a World Cup," he added.

When asked about his role, the 30-year-old insisted he wasn't concerned about having to play a part from the bench: "I got told to play like I do all the time and keep the team help the ball and attack the spaces. That is what I do.

"It is the same coming off the bench as starting and the most important thing is to win."

Conceding late on means Spain now only sit on four points at the top of Group E. La Roja face Japan in matchday three, who showed their giant-killing credentials by beating Germany in their tournament opener.

"Japan are a tough team," said Morata: "They run a lot and are good tactically. It is another tough game but we are in a World Cup and every game is crazy."

Spain can help Germany to advancing by beating Japan, meaning Hansi Flick's side would only have to beat Costa Rica themselves.
