Álvaro Fidalgo netted the winner to give América their first win of the 2021 Apertura at the Estadio Azteca on Saturday.
Scorers: Reyes 40′, Fidalgo ’76; Zendejas 68′
América were troubled by Necaxa attacker Angel Sepulveda throughout the first half, but managed to keep him at bay before hitting the front five minutes before the break.
Mauro Laínez squared perfectly for left-back Salvador Reyes to score the Azulcrema’s first goal of the season.
Laínez came close to to doubling the advantage shortly after the hour mark only to see his effort cleared off the line.
Necaxa levelled midway through the second half when Alejandro Zendejas was on hand to finish after goalkeeper Óscar Jiménez – who had superb up to that point – parried Rodrigo Aguirre’s initial effort back into danger.
Bit Fidalgo turned the game back in the hosts’ favour when he timed his run perfectly to meet Laínez’s cross with an effective header.
Las Águilas sit on four points from two games after last week’s stalemate at Querétaro.
