Though he didn’t have stomach to ask him to swap shirts after Bayern’s unbelievable 8-2 Champions League victory over Barcelona, Alphonso Davies has labelled their massive encounter ‘a dream come true’.
After just a year and a half after coming over from Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps, Davies has now become one of the most popular figures in world football.
“It made me feel a little bit happy because here’s a kid looking up to his idol, playing against his idol who fouled him and is helping him up. It was everything you can ask for as a footballer,” Davies told Canadian journalists on Friday.
“Me going up against him was a dream come true.
“I still can’t believe all this is happening. Has it sunk in? I would say not yet. I’m just happy that I’m over here in Germany proving myself and, being a Canadian, it’s amazing.”
In a total of 43 first-team outings last season, Davies racked up a total of three goals and nine assists.
