Alphonso Davies has revealed his desire of captaining Bayern Munich one day in the future. The Canadian has been a huge hit since moving to Bavaria, and has become an important member of Hansi Flick’s side.

Davies has established himself as one of the most exciting players in European football since making the switch from Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019. The 20-year-old has lofty ambitions and believes he can become a real leader, and is willing to put in the hard work to get there.

In an interview with TZ, Davies admitted that while he is not one of the players who gives commands and instructions to the rest of the team, he would like to play that role some day.

“Every now and then I give some, but I admit: There aren’t as many as there could be,” he said. “I’m trying to improve there too, but at the moment I’m still finding it difficult to give instructions in German in the heat of the game.

“When I say something, I usually slip it out in English.”

Davies has big goals and hopes to fulfil them at Bayern

Last April, Davies signed a new contract which will see him stay at Bayern until 2025. He has established himself as a dependable left-back, while also providing an attacking option down the wing.

“If I could even be captain of FC Bayern in the distant future, it would be just incredible,” he added. “But I still have to learn a lot, a lot, be stable at the top level in terms of sport and improve my communication a lot on the field and at the same time.

“I’ve learned a lot, but to become a real leader, it takes a lot more. I’m working on that.”

Davies’ former Carl Robinson heaped praises on the defender back in 2020, claiming that he can become a Bayern Munich legend in the future.

“I know his dream is maybe one day to play in England, like it is for a lot of North American players, South American players, Australasian players,” he said.

“Going to play in Europe is the cream of the crop. That won’t surprise me at some stage if that comes, but that will only be based upon his development and continuation.”
