Alonso and Kovacic to return for London derby – Predicted lineup v Arsenal

Tonight Chelsea face Arsenal in a crucial premier league clash at Stamford Bridge. Kick off is at 8.15pm.

Predicted lineup

Formation: 4-3-3

At the back

Kepa Arrizabalaga received more criticism following the weekends defeat at Newcastle. Even so, he is almost certain to start this evening. Frank Lampard could well alter the back-four for the Gunners visit. Reece James will have his fitness accessed, but in truth I feel it would be wise to rest him if there’s any doubt. In that case I suspect Cesar Azpilicueta will return to right-back, with Marcos Alonso back in the team. The Spaniard has enjoyed games against Arsenal, offering a goal scoring threat. The centre back pairing for me would be Antonio Rudiger, and Kurt Zouma.

Midfield

Changes are likely in this area of the field. Mateo Kovacic will be raring to return, with N’Golo Kante alongside him to offer Chelsea a defensive bite. Jorginho may be preferred to Mason Mount, to offer some creativity to proceedings.

Front three

I feel Lampard will stick with the more recent attacking line. Christian Pulisic is still out with injury, making the decision an easier one. So it’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Willian on the flanks, and Tammy Abraham through the middle.
