Ex-Scotland and Rangers striker Ally McCoist has told talkSPORT BET that he believes Philippe Clement will still be Rangers’ manager at the end of the season and deserves the chance to bring in his own transfer targets during the January window after yesterday’s victory over Celtic.

“I think Philippe Clement will still be at the club by the end of the season The result yesterday against Celtic was unbelievable, but my main reasoning is I’m unsure if Rangers have the financial capability to be paying off people at the club. Sacking managers is a very expensive task, as we’ve seen in the Premier League.”

“Furthermore, the recruitment prior to Clement’s arrival was diabolical, but it’s a problem he must address – even though it wasn’t his doing. He’s inherited players that I don’t think he would’ve signed himself, so he deserves the chance to bring in his own players in the January transfer window, and then he can be judged when he’s built his side.”

Results will start to match performances

McCoist then spoke about how Rangers need to continue to pick up positive results after their 3-0 win over Celtic brought them to within 11 points of the league leaders.

“Rangers have to continue on the trajectory they’re on at the moment. The form overall has been good, and as disappointing as their defeat in the League Cup final to Celtic last month was, I think most fans would agree that the performances are slowly getting there.”

“I also look at the game against Tottenham in the Europa League, who are one of the top teams in England. The overall performance on that night was really impressive. Above everything else, all Rangers fans want to see is proof of progressive improvement, and then the results will come.”
