Former Rangers boss Ally McCoist has opened up on the trials and tribulations he went through during his time in charge of the club.
He was at the helm during the club’s administration period and subsequent liquidation in 2012, a time when his focus was largely taken away from on-field matters.
Although his love for the club never soured as a result of the tumultuous time, he has revealed how difficult things were at that point.
“It was the dream job at a nightmare time because I was manager of the club I supported, played for and loved,” he told Alan Brazil on talkSPORT.
“We were going through administration and eventual liquidation and we weren’t being given the opportunity to carry out our job as we wanted to.
“I was getting called off the training ground on a regular basis for meetings about administration and staff losing their jobs.
“Those were people who didn’t deserve to lose them. The biggest one of the lot was Laura, my secretary, who had been at the club for well over 40 years.
“People like that are integral and the heartbeat of the club. Myself and the media staff used to do an imaginary press conference before the real one.
“That’s how crazy it was! That’s the manager – who should be concentrating on set-plays, getting his team doing shape and all that kind of stuff.”
Despite all of the turmoil and his eventual departure in 2015 after being placed on gardening leave, McCoist isn’t looking back in anger.
“I don’t regret it, I really don’t. That’s my club who I have always loved and will continue to do so for the rest of my life,” added the 56-year-old.
“People say I must regret it. I regret what happened but I don’t regret being in charge at that time. Not for one minute did I fall out [of love] with the club.”
