It has been a bad couple weeks for Liverpool of late; it’s been even worse for a certain Alisson Becker.
The goalkeeper came under intense criticism after making two errors that cost his side a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City last time out.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had backed Alisson to bounce back against Leicester City but it turned out to be an awfully wrong prediction.
It has to be said that the Brazilian shot-stopper is widely regarded as the ‘best’ goalkeeper in the world and that’s perhaps why his mistakes come closely under the radar.
Coincidentally, Alisson is also the current holder of the Samba Gold award and is also in the running to win the award once again this month, alongside teammate Roberto Firmino.
After two consecutive losses in the Premier League, Liverpool looked primed for a win after Mohamed Salah gave them the opener courtesy of a sublime assist from Roberto Firmino. However, the game would go ion to change drastically within the next seven minutes.
A free-kick from James Maddison went all the way into the Liverpool net in the 78th minute. It was initially flagged for offside but a VAR review showed Firmino played the Leicester players on.
Three minutes later, Liverpool’s woes continued and this time Alisson was caught up in another mess. The goalkeeper raced off his line to confuse debutant Ozan Kabak and Vardy was gifted with an easy poke into the net.
Four minutes later, the game was put beyond doubt when Ashley Barnes received a brilliant pass from Wilfred Ndidi and fired home his 12th goal of the season.
Another error for Alisson means he has now made seven individual errors leading to goal since 2018, the most of any goalkeeper in that period.
The result also means Liverpool have now lost three games in succession and have won only three out of 10 games in 2021.
