Allan Saint-Maximin was quite brilliant during Newcastle’s 3-3 draw with Manchester City on Sunday.

The two sides played out a sensational match at St James’ Park and Saint-Maximin certainly played his role in the thriller.

It was he who hauled Newcastle back into the match after Ilkay Gundogan had given City a fifth-minute lead.

Even before the equaliser, Saint-Maximin was causing all sorts of problems.

And he eventually got his reward when Miguel Almiron bundled in his teasing cross.

Ten minutes later, Saint-Maximin found Callum Wilson who finished superbly past Ederson to give Newcastle the lead.

What a half and what a performance from the 25-year-old.

Kieran Trippier did give Eddie Howe’s side a 3-1 lead with a terrific free-kick but City fought back through Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva to earn a point.

At full time, Newcastle fans stayed behind to pay tribute to their players and their brilliant performance.

And unsurprisingly, many wanted to get their hands on Saint-Maximin’s shirt following his Man of the Match performance – well, one young girl in particular did.

Cameras caught Saint-Maximin walking over to the excited girl and looked set to give her his shirt. However, inexplicably, he tossed his shirt to a man in the row behind whose son was holding a banner asking for the player’s shirt.

While that young boy looked delighted, the look on the face of the girl was incredible. She stopped clapping and the look of pure excitement was immediately wiped from her face as she stared into the distance.

Not only did Saint-Maximin ignore her request for his shirt, but he also blanked the man who he’d given the shirt to as he attempted to fist pump him.

He was only trying to do something nice and Saint-Maximin ended up leaving two people pretty embarrassed – although the little boy who picked up his shirt will no doubt be delighted.

We shouldn’t laugh but it is quite funny…

Hopefully Saint-Maximin can sort her out with a shirt for providing the internet with plenty of laughs! Considering his previous acts of generosity including giving away a Rolex and buying toys for 100s of Newcastle fans, we’re sure she’ll get sorted out!

The girl’s mother later posted on Twitter saying: “This is my daughter Niamh. She is dying of embarrassment but was gutted she didn’t get the shirt.”

Praise for Saint-Maximin after his performance

After the match, people were queuing up to praise the Newcastle winger.

“Allan Saint-Maximin is really dangerous,” Guardiola admitted to BBC Sport.

Sky Sports pundit, Micah Richards, said it was the best he’s ever seen him play.

“It was the best I’ve ever seen him play,” Richards said on Sky Sports. “Trippier was telling him how good he is, and he has to believe it. Newcastle have a right player on their hands.”

That was an opinion echoed by his manager, Howe.

“I thought today was a very, very good performance from Maxi,” said Howe. “It was his best performance since I’ve been managing him.

“He got every aspect of his game in a very good place. His pace was there, you could see he was electric.”
