The two main contenders are clear. Real Madrid will be considered favourites after winning it last season, with nine victories from a possible ten games post-lockdown.

But Barcelona will be challenging despite the Lionel Messi fallout and appointment of Ronald Koeman. Sevilla and Atlético will be hoping to push both Clásico clubs further than last term.

Under Álvaro Cervera, Cádiz have gone from mid-table strugglers to top flight dreamers. They score a lot, concede a lot, and they’ve signed Manchester City cult hero Álvaro Negredo.

Huesca lost 14 games last season and somehow still finished top, while Elche finished sixth but secured promotion through the play-off route.

Newly-promoted sides will always be candidates for relegation but others should be fearful of the trapdoor too.

Celta Vigo escaped the drop by one point last season and will be hoping to turn their fortunes around, with Alavés also under threat despite the appointment of Pablo Machín.

Sevilla look to be going places under Julen Lopetegui. They won their record sixth Europa League title in August, before adding Suso and Óscar Rodríguez to their already exciting squad.

Keep an eye out for Granada who qualified for the Europa League last term – just one season after securing Segúnda promotion. Diego Martínez has done brilliantly well on a modest budget.

Which clubs have done the best business so far this summer?

Villarreal have taken advantage of another Valencia meltdown by securing Dani Parejo and Francis Coquelin, in addition to Takefusa Kubo on loan from Real Madrid.

Real Sociedad signing David Silva is seriously fun, while Getafe could be dark after signing Marc Cucurella, Enes Ünal and Cucho Hernández.

OK, finally, tell us who is lifting the title in May

It’s difficult to look past Real Madrid retaining their title. They are the most settled squad – with a mixture of young talent and experience – who will take advantage of others being in transition.
