Flamengo began their Campeonato Carioca defence on Tuesday night as the Rubro-Negro defeated Nova Iguaçu by a score of 1-0.
Substitute Max Alves da Silva scored the only goal of the contest in the 94th minute as the U-20s, filling in for the first-team, took all three points at the Maracanã.

Flamengo will next take on Macaé this Saturday. Macaé lost their opening match of the Carioca by a score of 1-0 today, falling to Bangu courtesy of an 80th-minute goal from Jean Carlos.
