Flamengo lost a valuable chance to make up ground on leaders Atlético Mineiro as they drew Athletico-PR 2-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

In a make-up game from matchweek four, Gabigol got Flamengo off to a phenomenal start by scoring a first-half brace within the first half-hour, breaking his long goalless run in the league.

The match looked to be over a few minutes later when Renato Kayzer was shown red for a challenge that VAR clearly showed was not anywhere close to violent conduct and was correctly reversed to a yellow card.

Kayzer would make his mark in the second half when he was able to pounce on a rebound from six yards out to cut the lead in half.

Athletico would steal the ensuing kickoff and put the ball in the back of the net within seconds but David Terans’ goal would be called back due to him being just inches offside.

In the dying embers of the match, Diego Alves missed the ball attempting to clear a corner, allowing Guilherme Bissoli to finish and give the home side a deserved point.

Flamengo will take on Atlético-GO this weekend while Athletico-PR will go head to head with RB Bragantino.
