The pre-match press conference with head coach Dino Toppmöller ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Heidenheim.
Eintracht welcome 1. FC Heidenheim to Deutsche Bank Park on Sunday evening as they look to consolidate third place in the standings on Bundesliga Matchday 29.
Toppmöller on... … the current situation: “We know what’s at stake in the Bundesliga and we know we’ve worked incredibly hard to put ourselves in the position we’re in. Our opponents are fighting for survival, so they’ll certainly battle hard out on the pitch. At home with our fans behind us – and we’ll need them in this game – we’ll have to give it everything we’ve got. We’re raring to go and we’re hungry for three points, regardless of how difficult the opposition might make it for us.”
… personnel: “Kevin Trapp won’t be involved on Sunday. We still hope Ansgar Knauff can play, but we’ll have to wait until the final training session tomorrow.”
… opponents Heidenheim: “We have to differentiate between the first half of the season and the second. In the first half, Heidenheim were also competing in the Conference League, which is something they weren’t used to. They’re not in Europe anymore and you can see that their results have improved, even against teams you wouldn’t have expected them to do well against. For example, against Leipzig and Wolfsburg, and even last week against Leverkusen they were closer to getting a winner than they were to conceding late on. That shows that they have incredible energy and a great deal of heart.”
… the days leading up to the game: “First and foremost, it’s all about recovery. As your mental recovery mostly takes place at home, the boys shouldn’t stay here at the ProfiCamp for long today. That way, you get your intrinsic motivation for football and the game on Sunday. Distance is important for that. We’ll have a short training session on Saturday and take a closer look at the opposition, as we’ve prepared a few things with our team of analysts. We’ll develop a game plan based on that, which we’ll share with the team on Sunday. Then it’s all systems go for the three points.”
