Luciano Spalletti was happy with the Azzurri’s performance against Venezuela but admitted he must discuss details with his players. Meanwhile, Mateo Retegui became a solid contender for a starting spot in attack at Euro 2024.

Italy secured a 2-1 win over Venezuela in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday night, in Italy’s first game in 19 years in the USA.

Spalletti was not entirely happy with the players’ attitude but insisted the Azzurri put in a good performance against the South Americans. The CT was also delighted by the reception he and his team received in the USA.

Mateo Retegui scored a brace, becoming a solid contender for a starting spot in attack at the European Championship in June. The Genoa star said after the match he needed to work hard and remain humble to have a chance in Germany.

Gigio Donnarumma was also impressive and saved his first penalty in regular time for Italy. He also met and hugged ex-Milan director Paolo Maldini before the match.

Jorginho was introduced in the second half and provided an assist for Retegui. However, the Arsenal playmaker taunted the South Americans after the match saying that they knew “when and how to fall down.”
