Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has indicated that he will play a strong XI for the EFL Cup tie at QPR on Tuesday evening.

The Eagles have endured a difficult start to the Premier League season, picking up just two points from their first four games.

Therefore, some may have thought that Glasner would be prioritising Saturday’s game at home to Man United when it comes to picking his side at Loftus Road.

Crystal Palace expected to take EFL Cup seriously

However, speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the game against the R’s, Glasner explained that he will pick a strong team for the game - just as he did in the previous round as Palace hammered Norwich 4-0 at Selhurst Park.

It’s our duty to take the Carabao Cup seriously.

It was just Daniel Munoz starting who played 90 minutes in the week, all the others were on the bench. Both the Colombians (Munoz and Lerma) came back on Thursday at 4pm. Chris Richards and Matt Turner came back on Thursday morning.

We have them as starting options for the QPR game. Yes, we take it seriously, we want to go to the next round, and I mentioned against Norwich we will play the Carabao Cup to win it, whether it will happen, I don’t know.

It’s an all-or-nothing game, and we like those games.”

Crystal Palace should dream of EFL Cup success

This is a refreshing attitude from Glasner, and it’s exactly how he should be, as Palace are a club that should be targeting this competition.

Whilst they have had a mixed start to the season, most expect them to stay up with relative ease in the Premier League this season, so there are no real excuses for them not to go all out for this game.

Plus, in terms of tiredness, the next game isn’t until Saturday evening, so there is more than enough recovery time for the players, so that won’t be an issue either.

To his credit, Glasner has already picked a strong side in this competition, with Palace hammering Norwich last month, so it was to be expected that he would do it again.

QPR will be ready for Crystal Palace test

For QPR, it’s good that they will be playing a strong Palace side, and it will be a great test for Marti Cifuentes’ side.

There’s no denying that the league is the priority for the R’s, and they will be in high spirits after rescuing a point at Sheffield Wednesday last time out in dramatic fashion, which has left them 12th in the table at this early stage.

Of course, as a Premier League side, there will be pressure on Palace to win, so it’s something of a free hit for QPR, and the manager will no doubt be interested in seeing how his players cope against some really talented individuals.
