Alfred Schreuder: “Take lessons and show character”

A broad win over the weekend against Antwerp fueled Club with confidence as it geared up towards the Cup return game against Gent, but the game quickly turned into a nightmare. Blue and Black conceded a 0-3 home defeat, meaning any dreams of winning the Cup have vanished.

“We knew Gent has a strong outfit", Schreuder started out. "But we managed to pick up where we left off on Sunday, with lots of high pressure. But one minute into the game we make a foul and concede that opener. Nothing much to worry about just yet, but that second goal just can't come. We did not keep hold of the ball adequately. After that red card and that 0-3 we struggled. We kept trying to creep forward, but you can see that Gent is a team with lots of routine. In swiching to a four defender three striker system, we gave away midfield, but unfortunately to no avail. Last month in Gent, we did not play well but won, whereas today we played a fine first half and lost. Gent has a fine team, however, and we do realise we will have to keep tabs on them in the league too. We should take lessons from this game and show some character. We know whtat's in store and we need to start grabbing those league points.” (SF)
