Alfred Schreuder refused to be drawn on his future after Ajax dropped more Eredivisie points in a 2-2 home draw with Vitesse on Wednesday.

Dušan Tadić gave the hosts an early lead at the Johan Cruyff Arena, but a brace of goals from Melvin Manhoef threatened to leave the Amsterdam giants with nothing to show for their efforts.

Substitute Lorenzo Lucca equalised to rescue a point for Schreuder’s side, but that did little to satiate those in the crowd who were calling for the head coach’s head.

In their defence, Ajax were desperately unlucky in the first half to hit the woodwork four times.

“Crazy, when you create so many chances that it only becomes 2-2,” Schreuder told ESPN, via Voetbal International.

“They do everything they can, eventually the balls will go in. You have to hold on to that. I see that this team is in full development. In terms of football it is a big difference with Sunday.”

He was referring of course to the defeat to PSV, who now lead the league by one point after this result.

Pushed on the pressure building on his position, Schreuder responded: “I’m not worried about it, it’s not up to me.

“I’ve been in football long enough and don’t worry about it, I can’t control it. I’m worried about the team: I think they’ve given a good response, but that you don’t win is very disappointing.”

Ajax, who will slip to third if Feyenoord beat Cambuur on Thursday, travel to Emmen on Saturday for what will be their last game before the World Cup break.
