Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder was critical of his side’s inability to problem solve in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Waalwijk.
Steven Berghuis gave the Amsterdam giants the lead at the Mandemakers Stadion only for Ajax academy graduate Pelle Clement to level for the hosts five minutes from the break.
Berghuis restored the visitors’ lead after the interval before a brace from Brian Brobbey put the result beyond doubt.
“The first half was just not good,” Schreuder said afterwards (via Voetbal International).
“We gave away too many chances. We also created chances, but all in all we were just not in a good position.
“In the second half I saw a very good Ajax: aggressive forward, with a good spirit. We gave a good reaction from the first half.”
Schreuder admitted that he and his staff used images to illustrate at half time why de Godenzonen were struggling to deal with Waalwijk’s counter-attacking tactics.
“Isn’t it disappointing that the players can’t solve that themselves during the game? That’s a process you’re in,” said Schreuder.
“We reported it, but it is still difficult to reach the players. They just did much better in the second half.”
The win puts Ajax four points clear atop the Eredivisie, though PSV have the opportunity to narrow the gap again when they face Groningen on Sunday.
