Alfie Doughty tipped to leave Luton Town - These 2 could follow him out of Kenilworth Road

2 Luton Town players who could follow Alfie Doughty out of the door at Kenilworth Road this summer.

It's been a dreadful return to the Championship for Luton Town. The relegated side were one of the favourites to regain promotion this season, but are staring down the barrel of back-to-back relegations.

The question of who the biggest underperformers in the Championship are this season will have a pretty unanimous answer in Luton. The Hatters have spent most of the season in the relegation zone, and replacing Rob Edwards with Matt Bloomfield has been unable to change that so far.

On paper, the squad has some top talent which performed well in the Premier League last season. However, for some reason, those players have been unable to hit the ground running in the second tier, and are faced with League One football in 2025/26, if they don't act fast.

If Town are relegated, it would be fair to assume there will be a big overhaul of the squad in the summer, with plenty of arrivals and departures. Sky Sports pundit and former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has already exclusively told Football League World that he expects wing-back Alfie Doughty to depart Kenilworth Road in the summer.

With that in mind, we selected two more players that will surely be on their way out of the door in Bedfordshire in the upcoming transfer window.

Teden Mengi

Former Manchester United defender Teden Mengi caught the eye for the Hatters last season, playing 30 times in the Premier League and looking like an exciting prospect for the future.

However, this season has been anything but plain-sailing for the 22-year-old, as he sustained an injury which has kept him out for the majority of Luton's miserable campaign. He made his return to action after five months out in a 1-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

If the Bedfordshire side are relegated to League One, you get the feeling that the Englishman won't want to stick around, despite missing a massive chunk of the season.

Mengi already had suitors from across Europe last summer, which could see clubs circling again in the upcoming transfer window, as they look to pick up a bargain.

Cauley Woodrow

A feared striker in the EFL in recent years, Cauley Woodrow has been unable to carry on his reputation he made in Barnsley after departing for Luton in 2022.

The striker has just three goals to his name in orange, one of which came in the Premier League last term. This campaign has been nothing short of a disaster for the former England youth international, as he failed to net a single goal for Luton this term, resulting in a loan move to Blackburn in February.

This move has yielded similar results, and it looks likely his time at the club he began his professional career with is all but over. He signed a new contract in 2023, but it's unclear when that expires, as it was described as a 'long-term contract.'

Having failed to make an impact at Kenilworth Road or Ewood Park this season, you'd expect the 30-year-old to be moved on as part of the squad overhaul for Luton.
