Alexis Vega has revealed he felt obliged to renew his contract with Chivas, but still dreams of making the jump to European football at some stage.
The 24-year-old attacker inked an extension with the Flock earlier this month, making him the club’s highest earner and keeping him at the Estadio Akron until the end of 2023.
And Vega, who is currently on international duty with Mexico ahead of their upcoming friendlies and Concacaf Nations League games, explained his rationale behind staying with Los Rojiblancos for now.
“I have been very happy, that was missing a bit because there was talk for a long time whether I would go or stay in Chivas,” the player told TUDN.
“I was clear that I wanted to stay in Chivas, I couldn’t leave without giving the fans joy. My family and I are happy in Guadalajara.
“I think about Europe but it would be a lack of respect to have signed and to be thinking that I want to leave.
“For the moment, I am happy and later God will tell if there will be an opportunity to play in Europe. And, if not, I am in a great club where the people, the fans, the board, the owner have supported me in a great way.”
Vega was one of the club’s most consistent performers last term, scoring six goals and registering six assists in 17 appearances throughout the Clausura.
