Alexis Vega will be sidelined for an estimated six to eight weeks after undergoing knee surgery for an injury sustained during Chivas’ match vs. Atletico San Luis.
The player went down in the second half, clenching his right leg after making a quick run forward. Chivas medics rushed to the field to treat the player with fears he suffered a torn ACL, before driving him off the field in a golf cart for further testing.
The team confirmed Vega did not tear his ACL, but required a partial meniscus meniscectomy to alleviate the pain.
“The Directorate of Sports Sciences of the Guadalajara Sports Club reports on the post-operative status of Alexis Vega, who this Wednesday underwent an exploratory arthroscopy on his right knee,” said the club in a release.
“This process revealed that the forward required a meniscus cut, for which a partial meniscus meniscectomy was performed. The prognosis for his recovery and return to competition is 6-8 weeks.”
The player is projected to return on April 1, for the match against Atlas. He will miss the games against Toluca, FC Juarez, Queretaro, Pachuca, Tijuana, Pumas, Tigres, Santos, Puebla and Club America.
