Only a year after leaving France for Inter Milan, Alexis Sánchez (35) could return to Olympique de Marseille. According to Foot Mercato, Marseille are exploring the option of bringing back the Chilean international as they look for a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubamyeang (35).

However, as the French outlet explains, the transfer remains far from simple following the arrival of Mason Greenwood (22). After signing Greenwood, Marseille are left with only one remaining non-EU slot for their squad (most African, Pacific, and Caribbean nations are exempt).

Marseille may have to sell before buying Alexis Sánchez

If they were to bring in Sánchez then Marseille would have no further flexibility in their squad building amid a summer where they are attempting to dramatically reshape their squad. The club would likely have to sell one of Michael Amir Murillo (28) or Luis Henrique (22).

This means that while Marseille are interested in Sánchez his transfer remains a complicated affair, made more difficult by the fact that Marseille are still attempting to clear the wages of some of their highest earners.
