Alexis Sánchez has sensationally claimed he wanted to tear up his Manchester United contract and return to Arsenal after just one training session with the club.
In January 2018, United reportedly paid Sánchez more than £500,000-a-week to prise him away from North London in a straight swap deal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
But the Chilean struggled at Old Trafford, scoring just five goals in 45 appearances before joining Inter on loan for the 2019/20 campaign – a transfer which was eventually made permanent this summer.
“I got the opportunity to join United and it seemed tempting,” he revealed on Instagram. “It was something nice, because when I was a kid I liked that club a lot.
“But I ended up signing without much information about the move. The first days that I was with my colleagues, you only understand things once you arrive.
“The first training session I realised many things. I got home and told my representative: ‘Can’t the contract be terminated to return to Arsenal?'”
“They started laughing but I told them that something did not sit right with me. It had already been signed.”
Alexis was named Arsenal’s Player of the Season twice during his four-year stay with the club, including his PFA Team of the Year inclusion in 2014/15.
