Alexis Mac Allister's father has quashed mounting speculation claiming that his son is considering leaving Liverpool to join Real Madrid.

Several outlets across Spanish media have reported that Madrid are mulling over a move for Liverpool's Argentine World Cup winner this summer in what promises to be a busy transfer window. Mac Allister's father, Carlos, only added fuel to the rumour mill by refusing to rule out a Liverpool exit. "Time will tell," was the overriding message.

Mac Allister Sr has been far more emphatic after talk of his son's imminent departure ramped up in recent days. "There is nothing to comment on," the former Argentina international told winwin. "Alexis is very happy in Liverpool. He hopes to win the Premier League this season and then enjoy a holiday he didn't get last year.

"It is important that we respect the organisation he plays for, so any comments from us will be redundant."

In a final bid to take his son out of the firing line, Carlo Mac Allister concluded: "Alexis has a contract with Liverpool until 2028 and is happy at the club and we hope he will continue there."

Mac Allister may be staying on Merseyside but there is expected to be plenty of turnover around him. Virgil van Dijk predicted a "big summer" in terms of "players going out [and] players coming in". The agent of Mac Allister's midfield partner Ryan Gravenberch has linked his client with a move to Real Madrid while Trent Alexander-Arnold is widely believed to have already agreed to join the Spanish giants.

Liverpool could also bring in a new midfielder to compete with Mac Allister. Inter's Nicolo Barella is thought to be on the club's list of transfer targets this summer along with Eintracht Frankfurt talent Hugo Larsson.
