Alexander Isak has not travelled with the Newcastle United squad for their pre-season tour of Asia.

His absence is understood to be linked to ongoing fitness management and persistent transfer speculation.

The striker did not feature in the recent 4-0 defeat to Celtic, having trained separately in the lead-up to the match.

That initial absence has now extended into the club’s trip to Singapore and South Korea.

While there has been no official clarification since, the consistent message from within the camp continues to point towards a cautious approach over the player’s thigh issue.

The decision has not gone unnoticed, given the level of interest in the Sweden international. He has been linked with Liverpool, Al-Hilal and several other clubs.

Isak, who scored 27 goals in all competitions last season, remains a key part of manager Eddie Howe’s plans.

He has repeatedly described the striker as ‘happy’ at the club and central to their ambitions ahead of a return to Champions League.

Newcastle will face Arsenal in Singapore before heading to South Korea to take on a K League XI.

Isak is expected to continue his preparations in the north east, with the club keen to ensure he is fully ready for the start of the new campaign.
