Alexander Isak has put Newcastle United in ‘lose-lose situation’ | OneFootball

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe admits the the club are in a no-win situation as it relates to Alexander Isak and his uncertain future at the club.

The striker has been pushing for an exit from St James’ Park this summer amid interest from Liverpool, who saw a £110 million transfer bid rejected earlier this month.

Isak broke his silence on the saga this week, posting a statement online in which he accused the Magpies of “broken promises” and that the “relationship can’t continue” due to a lack of trust.

Newcastle hit back at the player’s claims, stating that “no commitment” had been made to let him leave the club this summer, adding that “the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired”.

Howe says the situation has not changed and Isak will not be in the squad to face Liverpool, of all teams, on Monday night. He has “no way of knowing” what will happen in the final 11 days of the transfer window, but believes the saga will come to an end “soon”.

“The club has to act in the best interests of Newcastle United and it will do that in every situation,” he said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“I think it’s a lose-lose situation for us to a degree as I don’t think we can come out of this winning.

“It’s a difficult situation to manage in the sense of what he’s contributed to the football club and how professional he has been. It’s been an unfortunate couple of months that look like it’s coming to an end soon.”

Howe said that Isak’s statement was a “sad moment” for Newcastle. “My preference for these things it that it doesn’t happen publicly. Everything is better dealt with behind closed doors but in this situation, needs must and in this situation the club has spoken and justifiably so in that moment.”

Despite Isak going public with his desire to leave Newcastle, Howe says “there are no issues between us” and he would welcome him back into the team.

“Of course [I want him to], he is contracted to us and he is our player. My wish is that he will be playing with us on Monday and 100 percent I want to see him back in a Newcastle shirt.”

Asked how the rest of the players feel about the Isak situation, Howe responded: “I have no doubt about how the players will feel. They will feel same way I do.

“Alex is a fantastic player, he’s a good person, a good character and a good lad. If Alex wanted to come back and play for us the players would welcome him.”
