Gunners have tracked Sweden international for a number of years

The Gunners have tracked the Newcastle forward since his days with Real Sociedad in Spain and were frequently linked with a move during last summer’s transfer window.

Isak, who scored against Mikel Arteta’s side in Newcastle’s 1-0 win earlier this month, is under contract at St James’ Park until the summer of 2028 but reports have suggested talks about improving his deal have stalled.

Among the items on the agenda are likely to have been plans for the next two transfer windows as Arteta looks to end the club’s long wait for a third Premier League title.

While Isak has a long way to go on his contract with Newcastle, Magpies manager Eddie Howe admitted last the month the club had to be careful when offering new deals, such is the balancing act staying on the right side of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) requires.

Speaking while away on international duty with Sweden, Isak told Fotbal Skanalen: “Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season.

“There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn’t affect me.”

When quizzed on his representatives reportedly being frustrated about a lack of progress in contract talks with Newcastle, the forward added: “The only thing I can say is that a lot of information and rumours often come out.

“Much of what I read is not true. So that’s about all I can say about the whole thing.”
