The Alexander Isak auction.

Going Once…. Going Twice….. Sold!!

Ooo wait….

This isn’t an auction where the player will be sold to the highest bidder. Alexander Isak is a Newcastle United player under contract for another three seasons. Liverpool’s plan to unsettle Isak has worked, but the part of the plan they seem to have forgotten, is placing a bid that his current employer feels is acceptable.

In all of this Alexander Isak drama, the media seems to have forgotten that Liverpool haven’t matched what Newcastle United want for their star man.

The outright disrespectful offer of £110million, is merely the money that Liverpool have accrued from the sales of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz.

I would say £150 million for arguably the world’s most complete striker is somewhat of a bargain on all counts.

To put it into perspective:

Chelsea want £80million for Jackson.

Arsenal paid £105million for Declan Rice.

Manchester United have just paid £74million for a kid with a high ceiling.

Aston Villa wanted £80million for Ollie Watkins in January and sold Jhon Duran for £90million.

A 30 year old Harry Kane went for £100million in 2023 with one year left on his Spurs contract.

The list could go on with clubs and their valuations, but it won’t change the fact that Alexander Isak will be wearing red by the end of the window and at this point as a Newcastle United fan, I just want to see Liverpool stump up the proper money. To put an end to this saga that’s been haunting me with every Sky Sports News notification since the NUFC squad flew off to Asia.

Thank you Alexander. It’s been a level of contentment to watch you on the turf of my cathedral for the last three seasons. From the last minute winner against Forest, the PSG Champions League night at home, dominating Liverpool at Anfield, or to the celebrations on the steps of Wembley, the pleasure has been all mine. All the best.

To close on my late Tuesday night rant, I think this summer is growing proof that PSR, FFP and ‘fair market value’ doesn’t work.

Newcastle United will lose there best player because they can’t pay the wages he was promised and at the same time we will strengthen a club that are already 50 years in front of our development and continue to pull away.

Elsewhere, Manchester United had their worst season in decades and have still managed to reinvent their frontline at a cost of £205 million without selling a single player. Name me another 15th placed club that could do that?

To top it all off, Chelsea have taken their spending to £1.68billion dollars on signings since the Clearlake Capital era began. That’s FIFTY players.

PSR has broken the English game just to keep six out of the 92 at the top no matter what.
