Mowatt is Boro’s eighth signing of the current transfer window.

Chris Wilder has also bolstered his squad this summer by signing Matthew Hoppe, Marcus Forss, Darragh Lenihan, Tommy Smith, Liam Roberts, Zack Steffen and Ryan Giles.

With Boro set to take on Sheffield United this afternoon, it will be intriguing to see whether Mowatt will be handed his debut in this particular clash.

Middlesbrough will be determined to secure their first league victory of the season at the Riverside Stadium today.

After being held to a draw by West Brom on the opening weekend of the 2022/23 campaign, Boro suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Queens Park Rangers last Saturday.

Reflecting on his move to Middlesbrough on Instagram, Mowatt has admitted that he is buzzing to join the club.

The former Leeds United man posted: “Buzzing to sign for @theboroofficial on loan for the season.”

The Verdict

This could turn out to be a wise move by Mowatt as he may have been forced to watch on from the sidelines at The Hawthorns this season due to the presence of John Swift, Jake Livermore, Jayson Molumby and Okay Yokuslu.

Having opted to seal a switch to Middlesbrough, the midfielder will now be aiming to claim a regular spot in the club’s starting eleven by delivering the goods on a consistent basis in the Championship.

Particularly impressive for Barnsley during the 2020/21 campaign, Mowatt managed to provide 15 direct goal contributions in the second-tier as he averaged a WhoScored match rating of 6.93 at this level.

Providing that he is able to rediscover his best form in a Middlesbrough shirt, the 27-year-old could potentially help his new side launch a sustained push for a top-six finish this season.

Literally 99% of Middlesbrough supporters should be scoring 28/28 on this Boro quiz - Can you?
