Following interest from Hertha Berlin, 24-year-old central-midfielder Alex Král has suspended his contract with Spartak Moscow until 2023, the Russian club has confirmed.

The Czech Republic international is making use of the new FIFA regulation that allows players in Ukraine and Russia to take such a step.

Hertha Berlin’s interest in Král was known last month with the Bundesliga side now expected to make a push to sign the Czech midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Premier League side West Ham United.

Sandro Schwarz knows Král from him time as head coach of Dynamo Moscow, Spartak’s rivals. During his time in Russia, the 31-capped Czech Republic interested played 60 games in all competitions for Spartak.

Král played just 255 minutes across six games in all competitions last season for West Ham, and would become Hertha’s third signing this summer after the arrival of defensive Filip Uremovic and Jonjoe Kenny on free transfers from Rubin Kazan and Everton.
