After missing out on Fran Garcia and Borna Sosa, Benfica’s Álex Grimaldo (27) is now a candidate for Bayer Leverkusen, according to Kicker, as Die Werkself look to add a left-back to their squad.
With a contract expiring in the summer, Grimaldo is available on a free transfer and although wanted by Leverkusen in January, Benfica had no interest in allowing the Spaniard to leave.
Per the report, signing Grimaldo won’t be easy. A former Barcelona player, his qualities are well known and it’s likely that the left-back will have plenty of options to choose from come July.
Grimaldo would be an upgrade on Mitchel Bakker, whilst Daley Sinkgraven would be allowed to leave the club. Piero Hincapié can also operate at left-back, giving Xabi Alonso several options.
One player that is likely to leave B04 in the summer is Callum Hudson-Odoi. The Englishman wishes to return to Chelsea and with no purchase obligation on the 22-year-old, B04 are unlikely to push for a transfer.
