Alex Baena sues Real Madrid star Federico Valverde over assault  | OneFootball

Villarreal star Alex Baena has decided to take action against Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde after suffering an assault.

Valverde reportedly punched Baena’s face in the car park after the La Liga game on Saturday at Santiago Bernabeu.

The Uruguayan midfielder was offended by alleged insults from Baena over his unborn child – Valverde’s partner had complications during her second pregnancy.

However, Baena, who was spotted with a bruised cheekbone, denied the allegations through a statement on Instagram.

The two share a hostile relationship after clashing during a Copa del Rey tie earlier this year, where the Spaniard supposedly made the remarks about his son.

A statement from Villarreal read: “The Villarreal CF footballer, Álex Baena, suffered an assault last night while he was going to the team bus after the match played against Real Madrid CF at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

“Faced with this situation, the player has decided to file the corresponding complaint against the aggressor before the National Police.

“Once again, Villarreal CF shows its rejection of any act of violence and firmly believes in the version of its player, whom it will support throughout this entire process.”

The police reportedly took statements from both the players and witnesses.

The Yellow Submarine have video evidence of Valverde’s attack on Baena, which could potentially hand the Los Blancos star severe sanctions.

Valverde also declined to comment on the incident when he left Madrid’s training ground yesterday.
