Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero claims that his former team-mate, Andrea Pirlo, is set up to be a success in his new career as Juventus manager.
Juve shocked the world last month by appointing Pirlo shortly after sacking Maurizio Sarri, only having been named manager of the Juve U-23 side less than two weeks prior.
Despite his inexperience, Del Piero feels that the 116-time Italy international is ready to win trophies immediately.
“I was very surprised because it’s very early for him to be in that position,” Del Piero told Forbes.
“I’m surprised because I thought Juve would go in a different way.
“This is a big challenge for everyone but the club is very strong and the team is very good and Andrea is a great guy.
“I don’t know his mind in terms of what he wants to do inside the pitch, but I know him personally so I believe he will be well prepared and ready to take this opportunity and to convert it into success.”
Del Piero, who retired in October 2015, also claimed that a career in management is still something he wants to pursue, though he has yet to make the jump.
“As for my future? Being a technical director and coach is something that is always in my head.”
Del Piero remains Juve’s all-time leading scorer by a very wide margin (290 goals), while Gianluigi Buffon needs to make just 35 appearances to overtake him as Juve’s all-time appearance leader.
