Alessandro Bastoni signs new contract with Inter Milan | OneFootball

Alessandro Bastoni has finally put an end to speculation linking him with a move away from Inter Milan by committing his long-term future to the club.

Inter have announced that the highly-rated defender has signed a new five-year deal keeping him at the Guiseppe Meazza until the summer of 2028.

The 24-year-old is widely regarded as one of the most promising defenders in the Italian top flight, so it is no surprise that several European heavyweights have tried to prize him away.

Tottenham Hotspur had concrete interest in the Italian defender but plans to launch an official bid faded into thin air following the departure of Antonio Conte, who was spearheading the push.

Inter and Bastoni have been locked in negotiations over a new deal for the past few months, and the player’s willingness to continue serving the Nerazzurri boosted the club’s hopes of hanging on to him.

Both parties have now found common ground, and Bastoni is set to remain with the Champions League finalists for quite some time.

The Italy international defender first joined Inter from Atalanta in 2017, but he did not get a chance to impress the Nerazzurri until the 2019/20 campaign.

Bastoni has since made 164 appearances in an Inter shirt, contributing three goals and 14 assists. He has also enjoyed success with the Nerazzurri winning the Serie A title, two Coppa Italia and two Supercopa Italiana trophies.

Inter have also confirmed that Turkish midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has signed a new two-year contract keeping him at the club until 2027.

The 29-year-old has been a staple for the Nerazzurri since switching allegiances from arch-rivals AC Milan on a free transfer two years ago.

He played a prominent role in Inter’s reasonably successful campaign last term when they retained the Coppa Italia title and reached the Champions League final.
