Alejandro Garnacho has scored his first goal for Manchester United.
It’s no secret that the youth system at Old Trafford is amongst the very best in world football, so ears always prick up when the latest talent is picked up off the Carrington conveyor belt by the incumbent first-team coach.
And Garnacho is the most recent starlet to pull on the famous red jersey having just been named as the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year on the back of an FA Youth Cup-winning campaign.
Now, Garnacho is starting to knock on the door of Erik ten Hag’s first-team set-up more often, building on his pair of outings for Ralf Rangnick to make four appearances to date this season.
And Ten Hag’s faith in the 18-year-old was made very clear in his decision to start him for the Europa League clash at Real Sociedad on Thursday night.
United‘s qualification might already have been assured, but it was nevertheless a great show of confidence in Garnacho to back him against undoubtedly the Red Devils’ toughest European opponents so far in 2022/23.
And boy did Garnacho repay his manager’s trust in him, notching his first goal for the Old Trafford club by opening the scoring in the first-half at the Reale Arena.
Plus, it could hardly have transpired under more fitting circumstances because it was none other than Garnacho’s hero, Cristiano Ronaldo, who provided the assist for what proved to be a fine finish.
So, be sure to check out what could well prove to be a watershed moment in Garnacho’s fledgling career at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ by watching his maiden strike for the club down below.
Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is some finish.
It might not have been a defence-splitting pass from Ronaldo per se, but it was nevertheless fitting that the assist for Garnacho’s historic moment came from the boot of the man that he looks up to as his hero.
And that’s no insignificant detail when you consider that the United starlet has also shared a dressing room with Lionel Messi by way of being an Argentinean.
However, at Old Trafford, he may well have played a part in his own passing of the torch moment that – if he goes onto become a big success at United – might one day remind fans of Ronaldinho setting up Messi’s first ever goal for Barcelona.
Maybe we’re getting a bit ahead of ourselves, but you understand the sentiment.
Besides, even if Garnacho’s first goal for United somehow proves to be his last, then you can rest assured that he’ll forever feel proud about his stinging finish from a Ronaldo assist. Dreams really do come true.
