Albion’s Premier League Season Comparison – 26 games

After an incredible game at the Hawthorns, Albion maintained their unbeaten home league record against Brighton and, more importantly, claimed all three points.

The Baggies have recorded successive clean sheets and managed to stay unbeaten for three matches for the first time this season. That needs to continue for a while if they are to survive!

It also means that Albion’s last five home Premier League victories have come under five different managers – Tony Pulis, Alan Pardew, Darren Moore, Slaven Bilić and now Sam Allardyce.

The three points mean that this season’s team has drawn level with the Great Escape side although Robson’s team had a much better goal difference.

The worst side in Albion’s history earned a point thanks to a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle United in game 26 with Imre Varadi equalising Ken Wharton’s opener for Iam McFaul’s team. That point moved them on to 13 points.

In Premier League history, game 26 has seen some memorable games for the Baggies. In 2011, Albion lost a three goal lead to draw 3-3 with West Ham United in Michael Appleton’s only game in caretaker charge of the club, while two years later they recorded a second successive win at Anfield having not won there for the preceding 40 years.

And then there was the infamous match at Craven Cottage in 2006 when an abject Albion side lost 6-1 with a fair proportion of the travelling support left when Fulham went 4-0 up just before the hour mark. It was the start of the Baggies’ slide to relegation as they picked up just four points from the remaining twelve games.
