Albertini says Milan players must ‘demonstrate their value’ against Inter

Demetrio Albertini certainly knows a thing or two about the Derby della Madonnina and as such, he was interviewed by Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of the 240th edition. He made it clear that this is a chance for the Milan players to prove themselves.

It has been a very tough start to the season for Milan with just one win in five games, and a turning point is desperately needed tonight. However, Inter are the big favourites after winning the last six derbies and would make history if they reach seven games.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport for today’s edition (see photo below), Albertini was asked if the derby could be a turning point for Milan. He made it clear that a lot of responsibility falls on the player, while one in particular has to step up and make the most of his qualities.

Can the derby be a turning point?

“The fans are waiting for it with concern in light of what we have seen so far, while for Fonseca’s players it is an opportunity to demonstrate their value, to reverse the trend.”

Who can be the decisive man for Inter?

“Lautaro worries me: he will want to redeem himself against Milan to ‘restart’ his season.”

And for Milan?

“Maybe Leao, who we have been waiting for a while in terms of continuity. Nobody doubts his qualities, but his performance is too inconsistent. Let’s hope the derby is an ‘up’ match and not a ‘down’ one. We are not asking him to carry the team on his shoulders or to be the leader, but to make a difference.”

If the derby itself isn’t enough fuel for the Rossoneri men, then Hakan Calhanoglu taunting them on social media definitely should be.
