Former Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson has hit out at his omission from the Legends squad that faced Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Scottish Champions sent a side featuring great Celts such as Stan Petrov, Artur Boruc, Simon Donnelly and Charlie Mulgrew to face United.

Although, Thompson has taken aim at the decision to exclude him on Twitter/X, taking a pop at some of the players that were involved.

Thompson and the club have not seen eye to eye since his dismissal as Neil Lennon’s Assistant over ten years ago. It is a shame that he wasn’t involved as he is actively pro-Celtic, unlike some former players. Thommo was signed by Martin O’Neill in September 2000 and he would become a vital part of his team that would wrestle back domestic dominance from Rangers.

Celtic won the game on penalties after a Gary Hooper goal cancelled out Wayne Rooney’s free-kick. It was an afternoon that raised £1m for charities and offered fans the chance to see some heroes back on the pitch.
