It was exclusively revealed by Football League World in February that the players are keen to see the 38-year-old remain as manager after taking over on an interim basis last month.

Sheehan was appointed to the role following Luke Williams’ dismissal, and oversaw a 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in his sole game in the dugout so far.

That ended a run of just one win in nine league games that spelled the end for Williams’ tenure in charge.

Sheehan has admitted that he’d be open to talks with the Swansea hierarchy over taking over the team on a permanent basis.

However, he believes that the club needs to be all pulling in the same direction, regardless of whoever is appointed, in order for success to be achieved long-term.

"If they [the club] want me to be that guy and they believe that I am the guy, then we'll have a conversation," said Sheehan, via the BBC.

"I think it's important the football club gets the right person, that they believe and understand that there needs to be changes to be successful.

“I think everybody's got to be on the same page - there has to be nobody pulling against the current in any way.

"I think it's important that if we can build that positive energy – and we can do that together – then you have positive conversations.

"But it's not just 'do you want it?', 'oh yes please'. We need to know exactly how that looks and then we move on from there, if that makes sense."

Swansea are currently 16th in the Championship table following that win over Blackburn, but are back in action on Tuesday evening with a trip to Preston North End.

Swansea can be patient with Williams replacement

Swansea aren’t in the mix for a play-off place, but they’re also not in danger of being sucked into the relegation battle just yet.

So that means they can take their time on making any decisions over the next manager.

Sheehan has a strong reputation within Swansea and knows the club and the players well, but it would be a big call to give him the main job without seeing how the rest of the season plays out.

It is worth still looking at other candidates, as the Welsh outfit should be looking to get the best start to the summer as they can to hit the ground running for next season.
