As the United legend says, the damage done in the first 45 minutes, as Newcastle United scored twice and then saw the win out after the break.

United avoiding the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Man U and Tottenham, plus it is a home draw as well, with Brentford to be the visitors to Tyneside in December.

“The energy, the pressing, it was back to what these fans have gotten used to seeing under Eddie Howe.
“They had to defend in the second half, Chelsea missed a few really big chances, which helped.
“A win, the clean sheet, into the quarter-finals.
“A really positive night for Newcastle.
“This competition is a really good chance for Newcastle.’
