Alan Shearer rave review for Ronaldo as Ian Wright identifies Newcastle’s biggest problem | OneFootball

Alan Shearer watched on as Ronaldo made his playing return for Manchester United.

Up against his own team, the Newcastle United legend could only sit back and admire what unfolded at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo setting Man Utd on the way to a 4-1 victory with two goals, which will surely be followed by many more for the 36 year old.

Alan Shearer declaring: ‘All I would say is, just watch this guy week in week out.’

The Premier League’s greatest ever goalscoring saying about this Ronaldo return: ‘We all expected him to do well. We all expected him to score his goal, or his goals. And the performance he put in was just phenomenal.’

With Newcastle United, Alan Shearer pointed out the underlying problem that as ever, always exists at St James Park, whilst it was left to Ian Wright to detail what he sees as NUFC’s biggest problem(s) on the pitch.

Alan Shearer on Ronaldo’s second Man Utd debut:

“It was always going to be, he was never going to disappoint.

“We all expected him to do well.

“We all expected him to score his goal, or his goals.

“And the performance he put in was just phenomenal.

“I mean, for 36 years of age, his energy, his attitude, is an example to any young kid watching.

“All I would say is, just watch this guy week in week out.

“Everything about him, whether it is his movement, whether it is his ability in the air, whether it is his touch. his control, just everything, it is first class.”

Gary Lineker:

“Any positives for Newcastle today?”

Ian Wright:

“Well, only the fact that you are going to go there and probably not have the ball.

“You know, if you do get the ball and get an opportunity, you kind of have to do the best you can with it, which at times they did.

“I think even this with Joelinton, once he gets into this position [running into the box on left side] there is nobody up there with him [Joelinton ends up shooting weakly wide when getting into the box].

“At some stage, Newcastle have to impose themselves on Manchester United because there were some chances when they should have done better.

“I know that Steve Bruce will have been thinking – ‘We are not going to have a lot of the ball but if we do, we have to do the best we can with it.’

“Look at Manquillo [on edge of own box when Newcastle get possession] here, this is what they needed to do, because they are capable of doing it. Almiron does fantastic, look at how many yards Manquillo makes up there, 90 yards to get there [and score].

“Now you look at Joelinton [jogging past the halfway line].

“So you have half the team who are working as hard as somebody like Manquillo, then you have Joelinton who is a striker and has maybe just realised I should be in here [penalty area – with Newcastle player on the break looking for somebody to pass to]. That is the problem, that is probably the problem that they have got.”

Alan Shearer:

“I thought they [Newcastle] did ok today. Stupid mistakes have cost them.”

Gary Lineker:

“What are your feelings about your club though Alan, at the moment?”

Alan Shearer:

“I hate what my club is, or has become.

“It has been a long time now.

“It is a hollow and it is an empty football club.

“There is no hope or ambition and I’m pretty sick of it to be honest.

“It is copy – paste – repeat, every season.”

Gary Lineker:

“What could change it?”

Alan Shearer:

“Well they give players that have been at the football club new contracts because they can’t sell them on.

“Then they have the excuse they can’t bring other players into the football club because those players are being paid a salary.

“It is cheaper to keep them on the books rather than buying other players.

“And the fans deserve better.

“Every manager has the same problems.

“As I say, it is copy – paste – repeat, every season.”
