Alan Shearer has been talking about the Newcastle United signings that need to be made this summer.

United already guaranteed to be playing European football next season, so Eddie Howe needing to have a team and squad that can compete in four competitions.

No new faces these past three transfer windows in terms of first team contenders, so the NUFC Head Coach needs quality, not just quantity.

Alan Shearer seeing three Newcastle United signings as absolute priorities – A centre-forward, an attacking player who can play on the right, as well as a central defender – presumably one who can play on the right side and compete with Fabian Schar who this past week agreed a contract extension to end of June 2026.

Alan Shearer expecting a number of players to leave, including some who have been at St James’ Park for some time.

Jamal Lewis is definitely leaving at the end of June (2025), whilst Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles, Mark Gillespie and John Ruddy are also set to be out of contract on 30 June 2025.

The club have the option of activating another season for Callum Wilson and it wouldn’t surprise me if they did that, plus bringing in another striker, with European football to compete in as well, hopefully Champions League!

I reckon it would also be a surprise if Sean Longstaff is still at Newcastle United next season. It is now four months since he started a Premier League match and gets very few minutes even off the bench. He surely needs first team football elsewhere and he is a player who should generate a decent transfer fee, which will all go on the positive side of the accounts, as he is a homegrown player who has come through the ranks.

Alan Shearer speaking to Betfair on the Newcastle United signings that need to be made in next transfer window, as well as the players to make way for them:

“Newcastle are obviously going to have to get players out.

“There could be three, four, maybe five players, out of the door.

“Players who have been here a long time and have been really good for the football club.

“It is probably best for those players and the club if they move on.

“What I would say, in terms of positions to bring in, I think Newcastle need another centre-back.

“They need a right-sided player.

“And without doubt, Newcastle need another centre-forward, because whether you like it or not, Callum Wilson has been injury prone, so it would be really risky not to sign another forward to complement Alexander Isak.
