Alan Myers has delivered an update on Everton’s managerial pursuit, and it doesn’t make for great reading for Toffees fans…

What’s the story?

Following the sacking of Rafa Benitez earlier this month from Goodison Park, Farhad Moshiri is once again on the hunt for a new manager, and it appears Vitor Pereira is the man in the frame.

And now, writing on Twitter on Tuesday night, Myers said: “There has been no final decision on the next manager appointment at this point, however I would not rule out Vitor Pereira becoming the next Everton boss before the week is out.”

Fans will be worried

Moshiri going head-first into a decision is something Everton fans have long been accustomed to, with the Toffees owner really making a name for himself as someone who will do things his way regardless of what the people around him say.

The Guardian recently claimed that while Pereira is Moshiri’s favoured choice for the top job, other members of the Everton board remain skeptical of whether it would be the right move.

The fact Pereira’s appointment as Everton’s new manager could be pushed through before the week is out as Myers claims is deeply worrying news for fans of the Merseyside club.

The Portuguese man has got no experience of the English game in his managerial career thus far, and given the kind of circumstances that the Toffees find themselves currently in the Premier League – a relegation battle is on the cards for the second-half of this season – taking a risk on Pereira doesn’t seem like the most logical move to make.

Myers’ update is sure to leave Everton fans concerned about what things will be like going forward for the club.
