Alan Browne has issued a scathing assessment of Preston North End’s performance against local rivals Burnley.

Preston were easily dispatched 3-0 on Saturday, with the contest being one-sided in Burnley’s favour.

The winger was a thorn in the side of North End all day and left Liam Lindsay on the floor before cutting inside to fire past Woodman for his second before firing home from the edge of the box for his third.

It left Browne frustrated by his side’s performance, with the Republic of Ireland international not holding back after the game.

Speaking to The Lancashire Post, Browne said: “It’s horrible, as a player you never want to come off the pitch feeling like that. We were dominated from minute one to minute 90, all over the pitch really they were better than us. They were set up better, tactically.

“There’s a reason they are top of the league, their team is top class and they really showed it today.”

As a player, you’ll never want to come off the pitch knowing you were second best. Preston were on this occasion and it showed throughout the afternoon the gulf in class, quality and depth within the squads.

Preston had just two shots on target which will no doubt be the most disappointing aspect of the game for supporters who travelled in their numbers for the game.

With Preston sat in 12th and just six points off the top six, there is plenty of time left to psuh up the table. However, given their recent run of form, and dismal home record, Lowe will be under pressure to improve things sooner rather than later.

The Verdict

Preston have been relatively poor since the new year. They’ve struggled to generate consistency and have fallen into the mid-table trap of being mediocre.

They strengthened well in January, so there will be limited room for excuses should the run continue.

They don’t have the biggest of budgets but there is enough quality in the team to improve their recent results.
