Alajuelense, Antigua meet with Quarterfinals on the line

MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continues with Liga Deportiva Alajuelense hosting Antigua GFC in Group A on Wednesday at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
This will be the third all-time meeting between Alajuelense and Antigua in the history
of the Central American Cup. The Costa Rican side leads the series with one win and a draw.
LD Alajuelense enters the match with six points, recording consecutive wins after falling in its tournament opener. The defending champions secured a crucial 1-nil win on the road against Alianza FC last week, with Fernando Piñar netting the winner.
With a victory, Alajuelense would qualify for the Quarterfinals for the third consecutive occasion. The Rojinegros boast an impressive overall record in the competition, having lost only one of its 23 matches.
Antigua will look for a win in the hopes of securing a top two finish after falling 5-3 at home against Plaza Amador. The Guatemalan club has a 1-1-1 record and currently sits third in Group A with four points.
Historic series
This will be the third all-time meeting between LD Alajuelense and Antigua GFC in the history of the Concacaf Central American Cup, with the Costa Rican side holding the advantage thanks to one win and one draw.
The first encounter ended in a scoreless draw on October 22, 2024, in the first leg of the semifinals at Estadio Pensativo in Antigua Guatemala. The return leg was played on October 30, 2024, at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, where the home side clinched a 1-0 victory with a lone header from Rashir Parkins to seal their place in the next round.
