According to information gathered by 90min, Al-Nassr have set their sights on Flamengo midfielder Gerson as a priority target for the upcoming season. This latest twist comes as Gerson’s move to Zenit had appeared all but sealed, with the Russian club’s president Alexander Medvedev publicly confirming a deal was in place subject only to official announcements.

The reported interest from Al-Nassr follows the imminent arrival of Jorge Jesus as manager. After being recommended by Cristiano Ronaldo, Jesus is expected to join the Saudi club ahead of next season. Al-Nassr reportedly view Gerson as a key reinforcement, making his signing the first order of business for the incoming Portuguese coach.

The Saudi side appear undeterred by potential financial hurdles. As reported, Al-Nassr are prepared to trigger Gerson’s release clause, valued at €25 million—roughly R$160 million. The club’s financial muscle is not expected to be an obstacle in negotiations with Flamengo.

However, acquiring the player may not be straightforward given current circumstances. Zenit’s pursuit of Gerson has been protracted, with Medvedev telling Sport Express that “the prerequisites [for the transfer] are in place,” and indicating all parties had reached an agreement with only formalities remaining. Medvedev also referenced Gerson’s strong performances in recent matches for Flamengo, suggesting the Russian club consider the midfielder a significant signing.

Al-Nassr face the challenge of convincing Gerson to alter course, as the Brazilian’s move to Russia is understood to be highly advanced. Nevertheless, Jorge Jesus’s appointment and the prospect of lining up alongside Ronaldo could present a compelling case for the midfielder to reconsider.

Gerson, a starter and influential figure at Flamengo, has been a target for several clubs, but the combined allure of Al-Nassr’s financial resources, rising ambitions, and the potential for a high-profile partnership under Jorge Jesus may yet influence the final outcome. At this stage, while Zenit remain in pole position, Al-Nassr’s late but powerful entry into negotiations has thrown Gerson’s immediate future into uncertainty.
